*  General Guidelines

Scripophily Condition

All of our Scripophily will show some age. These documents range in age from 50 to over 100 years. We do not sell highly worn documents except in cases where rare certificates are all that are available to us. A few of these documents have minor edge splits, some may have some discoloration, a very few may have glue residue left from attachments, and there may be some pin holes. Prior to purchase, if you are concerned over any of these flaws, send us a note with the catalog number and we will do a full examination of the document for you. We use the term excellent to describe many of our Scripophily examples, this means that the documents is an excellent example of the documents generally found for a period, or for a company.  When asked to examine a document we will use the following grading guide, click here.  We also offer a ten day return if the quality of your purchase does not meet your expectations.

Scripophily Cancellations

Stocks and bonds were frequently cancelled. Our offering includes both cancelled and un-cancelled versions noted with each catalog item.  Cancelling methods included:

  • Ink Cancelled- frequently used on very old certificates. Hand written notation of cancellation in pen and ink.
  • Cut Cancelled- scissors or a knife were used to cut away a portion of the certificate.
  • Hole Cancelled- a hole punch was used to cut out holes in the certificate.
  • Punch Cancelled- a paper punching machine was used to punch out a pattern of holes.
  • Various other methods.

Currency Condition

Our catalog includes the generally used quality descriptors for our currency such as Fine, Very Fine, Uncirculated, etc.  Currency condition grading is a subjective description.  All images are shown larger than actual size for a closer inspection prior to ordering.  We also offer a ten day return if the quality of your purchase does not meet your expectations.
